Calling all Metalheads! Metallica, one of the hardest rocking bands out there, announced their “WorldWired” North American tour last week. The band will be performing at twenty-five different venues across the continental United States and even some locations in Canada. Bouncing off the success of their most recent album, “Hardwired...To Self-Destruct”, this is Metallica’s first full-length tour since 2009. Alongside Metallica at most venues during the tour will be Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat. The closest venue that UF students would be able to attend would most likely be July 7th at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Metallica is most famous for the song, “Enter Sandman”, but is also well known for other headbanging masterpieces such as, “Master of Puppets”, “The Unforgiven” and “One”. The mark the Metallica has left on the music world and industry has not been overlooked, as Metallica was admitted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
Lead guitarist Kirk Hammett recently commented that the band will end the inconsistency in regards to tours. Speaking with Billboard, Hammett said that the band's home country will finally get the trek it deserves. "We're very excited about it because it's been a long, long time since we've done a proper American tour," he said. "I mean, we've done European tours, Asian tours, South American tours, but we have not done a proper American tour as of late. So we're very, very excited about it, and we're very excited to be able to do it bringing new material to all our fans out there."
Additionally, Metallica has announced the formation of their All Within My Hands Foundation. The band explains that, “We want to share our good fortune and give back to the communities who have supported us for so many years along with encouraging more participation from our fans and friends. We’ve started the All Within My Hands Foundation to accomplish these goals and all funds raised will be donated to a cross section of national, local and Bay Area charities that the individual band members support along with continuing to donate to music education programs and local food banks. Your donations will assist thousands throughout the U.S.”
Through a collaboration with Crowdrise, the band encourages fans to make a donation when purchasing tickets to the upcoming shows.
